Utilizing the different aspects of piling, our adipose began to take on various forms to allow for the pieces to depend on each other in order to stand up and to maintain a tight lock and key fit when needed, as well as offer negative spaces that could be occupied. The tallest adipose stands at 36” tall and is composed of cnc routed foam layers adhered together with gorilla glue and covered with: first a layer of foamcoat, then a mixture of elmer’s glue and sand, for the more textured areas a mixture of foam bits and elmer’s glue is used, and finally a layer of spray paint. Before being able to route the pieces, we designed the different adipose in maya, mudbox, and rhino t-splines before bringing it into mastercam, the program used with the cnc router.
